Richard Kimball holding a camera

Hola! I’m Richard Kimball

I design products, manage systems, prompt intent, grow teams, build market strategy, photograph life, illustrate complexity, animate action, and communicate clarity.

As a product designer first, I work on growth, retention, and complex workflows for products with unique data sets for B2B and B2C workflows. Continuous emerging tech waves push me to adapt to deliver data visualizations and raw data sets in useful ways across desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Harnessing the power of AI agents and MCP integrations, I’m helping others to make better decisions that improve cost efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Plus… Yo hablo español.

How I Lead

I build and scale design systems from the ground up, then keep them relevant through ongoing research grounded in real customer feedback and market signals. Findings get reported back to stakeholders alongside the analytics I track myself, both used to influence roadmap direction and surface new feature opportunities. As that work generates more value, team and workload grow, and when it’s time to hire, I write the job descriptions, design challenges specific to the work, and build 90-day onboarding plans with quarterly check-ins, all delivered with transparent management. No surprises.

Leading by example means staying a hands-on contributor, running brownbag talks, regular design reviews, and retrospectives to help teams build design fluency and engage more deeply with the practice. Building strong cross-departmental relationships with sales, CSMs, and support has given me direct access to customers rather than working through intermediaries, sharpening the product decisions that follow. Competitive and market trends get tracked to keep the teams I support current. At Zefr, for example, choosing to collaborate with the creative director and senior marketing designer for a more cohesive omnichannel experience, even though it isn’t required of me, strengthened the work. Storybook, alongside Claude Code and Claude Skills, is what helps me scale component libraries and design systems further.

Every designer I’ve hired has stayed at their company well beyond my own tenure there, and two have gone on to be promoted under my management.
